Whareroa Co-Gen

This dairy factory is located at Whareroa, 3 kilometres south of Hawera in South Taranaki and is the world’s largest dairy processing complex on one site. Following the 2001 merger of Kiwi and New Zealand Dairy Group, the factory is now owned by Fonterra.

McMahon Involvement

Co-Generation

Total electrical design, supervision of installation and commissioning including the 11kV, PLC, protection and metering systems for 4 x 12.5MVA Solar gas turbines, two John Tompson boilers and two ST boilers.

110kV Switchyard

Total electrical design, supervision of installation and commissioning of a 110kV switchyard, 5 x 60MVA 110/11kV transformers, 8 off 145kV dead tank circuit breakers, 9 disconnections, ABB protection and SCADA.

11kV Reticulation

Total electrical design, supervision and commissioning of No2 switchyard and relocation of the 11kV ring main units. Inclusive of 23 cubicles of 450MVA 11kV ABB switchgear, protection, 160 ring main units, installation of 20 x 1MVA 11kV/400V transformers.
