McMahon have a long history of involvement in successful generation projects. Generation is one of our specialties and creates a requirement for a unique combination of engineering skills which includes MV and LV switchgear, turbine/generation automation and protection.
Our experience in the generation field includes total turn-key package design, site engineering and commissioning support and generator control system refurbishments.
A fundamental part of most McMahon projects is power transmission and distribution at various voltages. McMahon have experience in medium voltage 11kV to high voltage 110kV equipment specifications, switchyard and substation design and earthing. We utilise software tools including ETAP for load flow and fault level analysis, arc flash energy level determination and protection setting discrimination and co-ordination.
McMahon’s major industrial clients include power generation companies, pulp and paper, timber processing, dairy, mining, water and wastewater treatment.
From the design of power distribution centres, motor control centers, cable support design (including 3D modelling), UPS installations and low voltage protection. We have experience in all aspects of motor control including variable speed drives.
The Company has considerable experience in control system design for both hardware and software. This includes programmable logic control, instrumentation, Distributed Control Systems, telemetry and SCADA systems. Such systems that have become regular requirements of most of our electrical projects.
McMahon can provide technical support for any electrical issues. We utilise in-house or rental equipment to assist in identifying power system issues and will provide practical recommendations for appropriate solutions. We can provide an audit of electrical installations and review compliance with the latest engineering standards.
McMahon engineers are conversant with issues such as supply harmonics, their cause, their effect and how their impact can be minimized.
We have in-house CAD skills including 3D modelling.
To ensure smooth running of projects, we have developed management skills from field supervision to full project management level. The management team provides and schedules the necessary resources as required by project demand.
Total electrical project supervision and plant start up is taken on as a direct responsibility by our team should it be required by the Client.
We can supply the personnel that are required for installation supervision (resident Engineer) and for all plant commissioning from high voltage switchgear, transformers, motor control centers to programmable logic controllers and instrumentation.
