Poihipi Power Station

The Poihipi Power Station is a geothermal power station near Taupo that is owned and operated by Contact Energy. Generation is from a 50MW Fuji Electric turbine.

McMahon Involvement

Project Scope Greenfield Development       

Total turnkey electrical and control system design for the greenfield development of the power station.

McMahon scope of work included conceptual and detailed design of all electrical aspects of the station inclusive of protection, 11kV systems, control and SCADA system (hardware and software), ancillary services and systems. McMahon were also active in leading the electrical installation and plant commissioning.

Project Scope (2014/2015)– Control System Upgrade       

Total electrical and control system design for unit, station and steam field control system upgrade to an ABB 800xA control system platform.

McMahon scope of work included conceptual and detailed design, tender compilation and administration and construction and commissioning supervision.
