Tokaanu and Rangipo Power Stations

Tokaanu and Rangipo hydro power stations are part of the Tongariro Power Scheme in the central North Island of New Zealand. Both stations are owned and operated by Genesis Energy.

McMahon Involvement

McMahon were engaged to produce the conceptual and detailed hardware design for the control system upgrade of the Rangipo and Tokaanu power stations. This was inclusive of 6 x 60MW unit controllers and two station controllers across the two power stations.

The upgrade involved the interfacing of the ABB 800xA control system to the protection, excitation, governor and ancillary services of each unit and local services across the station and headworks.
