The RNZN required an upgrade of their Devenport naval base shore supply as part of their project ‘Protector’. To generate a 60Hz supply for the naval vessels from the 50Hz New Zealand grid supply frequency, 2 off 3500HP 11kV 50 Hz synchronous motors were direct coupled to 3000kVA 6.6kV 60Hz synchronous generators. The shore supply upgrade included 8 off shore transformers 6.6kV/450V 60HZ 1MVA with on-load tap changers.
