Lower Huia PS Electrical Upgrade

Lower Huia PS Electrical Upgrade

Lower Huia Pump Station with four pumps operating, is capable of supplying 60 million litres per day (MLD) to Huia Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Huia WTP can provide up to 126 MLD or 24% of the average Auckland daily demand and is considered a critical water supply.
Watercare identified risk in the power supply to Lower Huia Pump Station and the adjacent Huia village Water Treatment Plant. Watercare’s project was to install a new permanent 1.2MVA standby diesel generator at the site. After an assessment of all options, a full main switchboard replacement was required and incorporated into the project.

Current projects at Lower Huia Pump Station are the replacement of the five pump electronic soft starters and the provision of active power factor correction.
